Awareness of Biodiversity-Green School Project – TERI
I worked on a project with The Energy and Resources Institute in Delhi (https://www.teriin.org/) as a part of their “Green School Project”. The Green School project by TERI, in association with Tata Steel Limited, aims to create awareness and understanding about environmental issues in school campuses run by Tata Steel. In any standard level environmental science class, one learns that the first step of pollution management is to stop its release altogether, if possible. Hence, this environmental awareness program aims to educate the next generation of Indian students to live in and remediate a country plagued by a host of environmental problems right now.
In my role, I undertook the following:
- Developed MCQ Quizzes and interactive presentations on biodiversity, air pollution and solid waste management and India’s challenges to sensitize students as part of The Green School program
- Developed ideas for exposure trips to different geographical regions in India for the students to learn about the environment through experiential learning
The project was extremely eye-opening in terms of exposure to the nuances of Indian environmental challenges. Additionally, it expanded my knowledge on climate change and other issues of significance with respect to sustainability.
